Christians Need to Understand the Rules of Discernment and Judgement
Christians need to know and practice the rules of discernment. We should judge people but need to do it with humility and keep in mind things such as what the sin is, who the person is, or whether or not they are practicing an unrepentant sin and are just living in sin.
Segment 1 (0:00) – Christians need to understand the rules of discernment and judgement. Instead of assuming the worst of people, start by hoping that you are misunderstood. We need to judge with humility and realize that anything we know about God’s word is revealed by God. Christians do need to judge fellow Christians but need to do it with proper discernment.
Segment 2 (8:19) – We are to point out sin in each other but also need to practice discernment by realizing what sins are worth pointing out and making a big deal of. When there are unrepentant sins that are repeated, we are supposed to judge. We see a pattern of sin in their lives. If there is someone who does something that is so out of character and if it’s something trivial then we shouldn’t judge with the same strictness.
Segment 3 (18:08) – If you have determined that someone needs to be judged, remember to talk about that person as if they are in the room with you. Don’t spread false gossip. We don’t separate from someone who you disagree with on a non-important issue.
